~*~*~*~**~*~
Ling Cao survived his fight with Gan Ning.
He managed to keep fighting Gan Ning for the shore until his allies forced the pirate's crew and said pirate away from the shore. The wounds he got finally caught up to him and the general sat on the ground, catching his breath; he hoped he won't have the fight the other man-child ever again, he had a feeling he might not live next time.
Forcing himself up, he walked toward the healers. He survived his current wounds by stubborn willpower and the fact he did not allow a fatal wound. The forces of Wu won the battle of Xia Kou. And when Gan Ning joined Wu, Ling Cao was one of the first to welcome him, saying "Glad to see that you are on our side, I don't think I want to fight you again."
The only one that didn't welcome the pirate was Ling Cao's son.
Ling Tong.
~*~*~*~
Ling Cao twitched as he watched his son attack the pirate for the umpteenth time. He, as a father and a general, was getting tired of this. Yes, Gan Ning did attack him, but Ling Cao lived and the pirate was on their side.
Enough. I won't allow this to go on any longer, The older Ling strolled toward the younger generals' fight and stepped between them with the words: "Stop this now!" Both fighters stopped with the cries of 'Father!' and 'Oy, watch it, old man!' as they reluctantly lowered their weapons, Ling Cao narrowed his eyes at his ill-behaving offspring. "Son, I need to talk with you for a bit. Alone." The father growled with annoyance as he step away from between them, "This fight is over. Now."
Ling Cao dragged his son to a place where they could have their talk in 'peace', not paying any attention to what Gan's reaction. Finding such a place, he stopped dragging his son and stood glaring at Tong with his arms cross his chest, "Tong, will you stop attacking Gan Ning."
"But he attacked you father!" Ling Tong said childishly as he looked at his father.
"That was some time ago, Tong." Cao said with a heavy sigh, resisting rubbing what was bound to become a headache.
"But-"
Ling Cao interrupted and narrowed his eyes, "I live still, and he was on the enemy's side. He is on our side now, and your 'childish' attacks on him are getting on my last nerve. And most likely everyone else's." Tong looked as if he was about retort back before lowering his gaze at the ground, seeing the displeased gaze in his father's eyes, Cao sighed as he smiled very faintly, "Son, please, stop this senseless fighting and become friends with Gan Ning. For the sake of Wu and my own, if anything. Ally generals should not be bickering."
He almost couldn't catch the faint 'Alright, I will try' from his son, he grinned.
~*~*~*~*~
Tong stopped attacking Gan Ning, although he still acted with hostility toward him, though not as much as before. Which was one of the reasons Cao didn't just sigh and throw his arms into the air in annoyance, he would take what he could get.
Besides, they should become friends soon or later.
~*~*~*~*~
"Wei is taking the west side!" A Wu soldier came running up, Ling Cao's expression frozen in disbelief as he turned to look at the soldier with inner dread growing.
"...That's were my son is..."
Breaking rank and likely disobey orders, the father rode towards the west taking down any Wei soldiers than he ran across as he flew toward where Tong's last know location. Arriving at the frantic pace of a worried father he blinked at the unforeseen sight in front of him, Gan Ning... saving Tong's ass? Well, well. He grinned as he rode down to help the two.
~*~*~*~
They finally managed sort of a friendship after that, and left Cao mumbling to himself that it was about time.
Seriously.
~*~*~*~
Cao looked at the sign again to be sure he read what he read.
Beware the springs ahead and do not near them. Or fall in.
Oh hell no. "Gan Ning! Get away from those springs!" Cao shouted toward the pirate.
Gan Ning, who was trying to stand on one foot on one of the poles, looked up in surprise, "Why? Oh shi-" He lost his balance and fell right in. Tong, who was about to tell Gan Ning he should stop playing around, stopped slack-jawed before closing his mouth and sped toward the spring; yelling his name as he stared into the watery depths. He breathed a sigh of relief he saw Gan Ning resurface before his breath caught again, continuing to stare. Gan Ning shook himself, not noticing a new weight somewhere different. The pirate snapped, "Damnit, old man! What did you do that for?"
Tong blushed deep red, he finally managing to tear his gaze away as he took off his shirt and held out to Gan, "Please, put my shirt on."
Gan Ning raised an eyebrow, "Why?"
Ling Cao said as he walked over to them, "Look at your chest."
Gan Ning glanced down and stared at his chest, poking the new lumps before his mind caught up on what he was seeing and feeling, finally screaming, "WHAT THE HELL!?"
~*~*~*~
Gan Ning had taken Tong's shirt and was wearing it as she continue to start at the breasts she SHOULDN'T have. Tong was still blushing madly as the pirate wondered aloud, "Am I stuck looking like this?"
Before Cao or Tong could say anything, a voice spoke up behind them, "No, you can turn back to your real self when you are hit by warm water."
They turned to see a man walking toward them, Cao spoke mistrustfully, "And how do you know that?"
The male sighed and deadpanned, "I fell into a spring, which was spring of the drowned pig. ...I was almost cooked by some travelers."
The Wu generals stared. And stared again. "...Do you live near by? Can you tell us more what is going on? What the heck is going to with these springs?" Cao spoke up, they would need more information.
"I live up there. I have made myself the caretaker of the springs." The newcomer pointed behind him toward a hill, Gan narrowed her eyes and interrupted him.
"Oy! Why don't you live closer? Maybe you can actually stop people from falling in!"
"....Usually, people noticed the damn sign and stay away." The newcomer retorted, Gan Ning grumbled and began to sulk. The caretaker continued on, "These are cursed springs of drowned people, animals and other things. I already said that I fell into the spring of the drowned pig, the 'lady' fell into the drowned girl... Anyway, you turn back with warm water, but every time you are hit by cold water, you turn into your curse form."
Gan Ning yelled a 'what the hell!?' from where she was at, and began to swear, "I am a damn pirate, it's hard to not fight near the damn water!"
Tong stared in horror, while the caretaker shrugged, "At least you keep your clothing on when you switch to your 'cursed' form."
....Silence.
Then: "WHAT!?" from the two younger Wu generals.
Cao rubbed his head, And here I thought them being friends would mean things will be dull. Not likely anymore.
~*~*~*
Cao sighed and shook his head as he stared at Gan Ning and Ling Tong, they were trying to hide the fact that their friendship had become something more. And, they are doing it badly, He thought as he watched at the secret touches between the two allies, he finally had enough and spoke up, "You know, I can tell that you aren't 'friends' anymore and are... oh let's say 'lovers'."
He held in his laughter as his comment startled the two lovebirds, who turned to look at him with shock, and both yelling "What!?" And then tried to denial it.
The father fought a smirk as he said, "Oh stop denying it. You don't have to worry, I approved of this relationship." Gan Ning looked as if he was about to say something, but Cao hold up his hand, "And no, it's not the fact you turn into a girl with cold water, I would have approved of it even if you weren't stupid enough to fall into the spring."
Gan Ning yelled out a 'Hey!' and Tong tried to fight a smirk as he glanced fondly at Gan. Ling Cao continued on, "Really, as long as you loved each other, I do not mind. ...But..." He paused as he narrowed his eyes at Gan Ning with a cold glare, "Gan Ning, if you ever hurt my son I swear I will give you a slow and painful death."
The pirate took a step back in fear as Ling Cao returned to his normal smiling mood, the older Ling said, "So.... you think I can eventually get some grandkids?"
He finally couldn't hold his laughter at the faces that the couple was giving him.
